Dignity Embroidery

Throughout villages in Asia, the skill of embroidery is being taught to women as a means of discipling others through genuine relational encounters and Discovery Bible Study methods. These embroidery workshops are both a means of reaching women with the Gospel; they are also a means of restoring their self-worth, as they acquire a new vocational skill that gives them dignity and helps them to see themselves as God sees them.  

Women are taught embroidery stitches in workshops or one-on-one lessons, where each participant is given a kit of supplies. Working together in camaraderie, the instructors use these opportunities to then open the Word of God together. When participants have completed their embroidery pieces, they are encouraged to keep them, give them as gifts, or sell them back to the project so as to help provide for their families, or to invest in more supplies as they launch their own micro-business venture.

Any embroidery pieces sold back to the project are then re-sold at markets; as the initiative progresses, handmade Dignity Embroidery pieces may be purchased by Western churches, with all proceeds returned to the project, helping sustain this venture.

Dignity Embroidery groups are being held in villages in the Philippines, Laos, and Thailand, with plans to expand into neighboring South Asian countries. Donations to this project will go toward transportation costs for travelling to the communities to teach and coach, and toward the purchase of embroidery supplies.  

This project is overseen by Tracy Ramos in partnership with Multiply workers on the ground and key national leaders. Donors contributing to this project will be kept informed through reports from the field forwarded by our Donor Engagement Team.
