Uncontainable

Baby Nathan’s mother tragically and suddenly passed away during childbirth. Having known the baby’s father, Jit, as one of our van drivers, we reached out as soon as we could to be with him in his grief. His pain was magnified by the fact that his older daughter had to drop out of school to stay home and care for the newborn baby, abandoning her dreams of being the first in the family to complete a college degree.

Coming alongside Jit in his hurt, we shared the hope of Jesus with him and, the very first morning that he joined our Naomi House Sunday worship gathering, Jit gave his life to Jesus.

Then, within only a few weeks of his decision, he experienced several life-changing events.

As Jit was driving home one night after work, he came upon an accident that had just occurred, and he was flagged down to help. It was not the first time something like this had happened to him, and—in a flash—he remembered how he had responded in the past.

In a prior experience, Jit had been flagged for help at the scene of an accident, and had driven on. Back then, he had felt only annoyance. Wanting to avoid the situation and its inconvenience to him, he had driven past the traumatized accident victims indifferently, completely ignoring their distress. The memory haunted him.

Now, remembering with shame—but also with gratitude—his old self, put to death with Jesus, he realized that his new self truly cared. Jit quickly stopped his car, gave what aid he could to the accident victims and, while waiting with them for the emergency crews to arrive, prayed for them.

Later, he shared this incident with us, beaming with uncontainable joy.

“It is a miracle of God!” he marveled. “I have been given a second chance to show kindness. Even with my own pain at the loss of my wife, the love of Jesus can fill me to care for other hurting people.”

A short time later, Jit was home in his small apartment with his daughter and baby son, and heard incessant knocking at his door. Several of his neighbors were there, looking distraught.

“We have been hearing one of the men next door,” they told him. “He has been weeping and weeping, there in his apartment. We don’t know what is wrong, or how to help! We know that you have just experienced a huge loss, and you know what it is to be sad—yet you seem to have hope and joy. We don’t understand, but we all think that you are the best one to go and comfort this neighbor in his distress. Will you go?”

Jit agreed to go, marveling again at the mercy of God.

Pray for Jit as he grieves his wife, and grows in his faith. May he lead many others, including his baby Nathan, to find the uncontainable joy that he has found in Jesus.
