In his letter to the Romans, Paul writes about the mutual benefit of partnership in the Gospel: “that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith”. When we work together in mission, we both give and receive in ways that build us up in Christ. At the same time that the work of the Gospel is supported and strengthened, our faith is encouraged. That’s what we experience in a healthy partnership.
I want to give you an opportunity to invest financially in the overall work of Multiply, believing that our partnership will bring mutual benefit. As I share with you some of what God is doing around the world today, I expect that your heart will be moved, and your faith will be renewed.
Many years ago, Trever and Joan Godard were sent as missionaries to Colombia. They were committed to proclaiming the Gospel and making disciples. During their ministry, there were two disciples named Einer and Girlesa who came to faith in Jesus and then fell in love with each other. After they were married, they felt the call of God to go to Panama to serve among the Indigenous people of that nation. That was about twenty years ago, and they are still in Panama today where they have a fruitful ministry serving alongside national leaders. One of those national leaders is a man named Ricardo who recently felt the call of God to mobilize teams from Panama to go to Colombia, serving among Indigenous peoples there and making disciples of Jesus who will make more disciples. And so God’s story of mission continues.
As a pastor of a church in Canada, I was a part of that story in Colombia and Panama. Our home church in Saskatchewan supported Trever and Joan and then later Einer and Girlesa. We became mission partners, and we were thrilled to be a part of the ongoing multiplication of the Gospel while encouraging each other’s faith. As you and I embrace opportunities like this to get involved in global mission, we experience the same joys of partnership.
Several years ago, another couple, Kyle and Danae Schmidt, were sent out from the US to serve in Africa. Recently they were reassigned to the country of Uganda where they are working alongside national leaders named Robert and Esther Mponye. Shortly after their arrival in Uganda, Kyle and Danae were also joined by a FOCUS Intern from Canada named Nathan Schmidt. Now there are others as well that are planning to join this missional team which is focused on a local vision of holistic kingdom discipleship. Alongside this team are several churches in North America and many individuals who are praying, encouraging, resourcing, and building fruitful partnerships. This is God’s story, as missional teams are loving the lost and introducing them to Jesus. We can expect God to multiply these efforts in ways that will have an impact on future generations in Uganda and beyond.
Jesus said of himself, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). He told three parables that help us understand different kinds of lostness and the celebration when what was lost is found. The last parable includes the story of the older brother who never really went anywhere, but he was lost all the same. And without Jesus, it is true that every one of us is lost. Yet we have a heavenly Father who is inviting us into the celebration of his kingdom. Not only do we each have an opportunity to respond personally to this invitation, but we are also called into the mission of inviting others to experience this kingdom.
We are all called to make disciples who will make disciples who will, in turn, make more disciples. This is God’s story of mission, and it includes each one of us.
In that way, we are all called to be missionaries. Some of us are called to serve in our home context, while others are called to go to another part of the world. Today, God is calling his people from everywhere and he is sending them everywhere.
One recent example of this within Multiply is a couple from South Asia named Arun and Anjuna. Together with their two sons, this couple was sent from their home country to serve among South Asians in Canada. They are currently engaged with a missional team in Western Canada that has several local churches offering support and resources for their mission to bring the hope of the Gospel to South Asians. By God’s grace, disciples will be made, churches will be planted, and nations will be impacted.
These stories would not be possible without people who support the overall ministry of Multiply and give where the need is greatest. Today, mission partners like you help us support missional teams in sixty-five different nations around the world as they love people who are lost without Jesus. The need is greater than ever before and yet we are seeing God’s story of mission impacting our world. I am so grateful for the partnership that we already share with so many people who are active in mission and involved in going, sending, praying, and giving. This is the work that we get to do together that the world may know Jesus.
Earlier, I mentioned how thrilling it was for me to become a mission partner and to experience the mutual benefit of partnership. Today, I want to invite you into the same experience.
Whether you have been involved for many years in partnerships like this, or you are taking your first steps in that direction, the opportunity to participate is now. I invite you to become a partner in global mission by making a one-time or recurring gift to support the ministry of Multiply around the world. Your gift will provide much-needed support for our workers and partners as they make disciples, plant churches, and reach nations, that the world may know Jesus. Join me today.
