In 1981, my husband Angus and I said “yes” to God, and moved to Panama. 

We went to lead an agricultural development project, and grew to love the people there. After  two terms, we returned to Canada. Re-entry was harder than the culture shock of moving to Panama!

A few years later, I lost my infant daughter. Then I lost my marriage. I went back to school to become a Landscape Architect, and I thought I would be doing this until I retired. Then I lost my job. It was like I was losing everything.

I asked God, “What do You want to do in me, and through me?”

His answer was to give me an opportunity to return to Panama with Multiply.  At first, that came as a shock. I was getting older, and launching into cross-cultural ministry at my age seemed like a lot. Then I realized—no one is ever too old to be on mission.

So, I sold my house, packed my bags, and then … the pandemic hit. The delay made me realize how much I really wanted to go, but It wasn’t until 2021 that I finally was able to launch into ministry in Panama. It was like coming home.

Today, I serve among the Wounaan indigenous people at Casa del Sembrador, a training center in Panama City.  My heart is to show the love of God to this people group in real, tangible ways. I want them to know that God has a plan for their lives, and that they will never be too old to say “yes”.
