Poco a Poco

In pastoring RETO church, we have faced many different challenges. We have also seen God at work—beautiful moments, and powerful stories of transformation. One such story is that of Fabián and María José.

María José found our church through social media, and watched online for almost a year before gathering the courage to come and visit us in person. She began by attending occasionally, then more consistently. Bit by bit—poco a poco—she began to feel more comfortable, and become more involved. It was several months before she joined one of our home Bible studies. It was there that she heard the Gospel, and eventually surrendered her life fully to Christ.
From that moment on, María José began asking for prayer for her husband. “Fabián has not approved of me attending this church,” she explained. “Please, will you pray for him?”
As a team, we committed to earnest prayer. We prayed for months, but nothing seemed to change. At least, nothing that we could see—but it turned out that God was very much at work in his heart!

During the summer, Fabián and María José’s daughter came to one of our children’s programs. It was a wonderful experience for her and, at the end, she invited her dad to attend the closing ceremony. To everyone’s surprise, Fabián said yes!

After the event was over, we spent time talking together with Fabián. It seemed that he had been processing the changes he saw in his wife and daughter, and now wanted to get to know this God that they had been following. “I want to change my life,” he confessed. “Can Jesus do that?”

It was a beautiful moment.

Since that day, Fabián and his family have not missed a single Sunday service. Both parents are now part of study groups—Fabián attends the men’s group, where he now asks for prayer for his mother and siblings to come to know Jesus as well.

Please join us in praying for this family. May they continue to grow in Christ and become a testimony to their extended families.
