South Asian Ministry Canada (Punjabi Ministry)

With globalization has come a mission focus that is from everywhere, to everywhere. Reflecting that trend, this project aims to mobilize a national leader from South Asia to church plant among the Punjabi diaspora communities of Western Canada. The target region is the southwest area of the Fraser Valley district, beginning in the city of Abbotsford, which is home to a large contingent of South Asian immigrants.

Ministry to South Asian people in Canada carries unique challenges, needing an approach which will reflect the cultural values of that community. Inviting them to a formal Western church building is viewed negatively in this conservative and tightly knit community, but a home fellowship would provide a safe place and become a center of prayer and healing. A network of home churches planted in collaboration with other MB churches and agencies in the Fraser Valley is the most effective way to reach both 1st and 2nd  generations  of this diaspora group with the Gospel, and would also serve to train, equip and mobilize other local churches to engage more effectively with their South Asian neighbors.

The national leader who will lead this venture is currently overseeing several churches in Bathinda, Punjab, and mentoring emerging leaders. He also serves as a network regional team leader in partnership with both Multiply and Multi-Nation Missions Foundation (MMF).

Donations to this project will go towards facilitating the vision of a church-planting movement among South Asian diaspora in BC, Canada, led by a 1st generation South Asian national leader who will offer a culturally sensitive and contextualized approach to ministry within this community.
