Vichayal Church Construction in Northern Peru

The Vichayal MB church built a meeting room in the community of Fortaleza de Los Incas in the year 2000. They built it with their own resources and with what they had at hand, it was made out of adobe and a tin roof. For the last 26 years they have used this small room to hold Bible Studies for the children in that community. However, with the passage of time and the many rainy seasons it has endured, the building has deteriorated and is in danger of collapsing. After years of continued ministry in this community the Vichayal church and the community itself are wanting to expand their ministry to also serve the adults in the community. In order to do this in a safe and sustainable manner, they need to rebuild this room. They are wanting this meeting room to become a church in this community.

What do we hope to see change?

A new building would give the Vichayal church the freedom to continue serving the children and expand to serve their families in this community - Fortaleza de Los Incas - with confidence and integrity knowing that the building is safe and suited for their needs.

How will this vision be accomplished?

The Vichayal Church has the building plans and is asking the Peruvian MB conference and church members to contribute to this project. They are also asking Multiply to partner with them in securing resources to accomplish this goal. There is a group of people in California willing to come on an ACTION mission trip to help with the actual building project. The Vichayal Church also has people ready to help with the construction.

When do we hope to start and finish the building?

The Vichayal Church has been working on this project for the last year, they have the land and the building plans.Once the funds are secured they need to demolish the adobe building and rebuild according to Peruvian building standards. The hope is that the first phase of the building - concrete, walls and ceiling - would be started by October 1st and finished by November 15th this year. An ACTION team is tentatively scheduled to come in mid November 2026 to help with the finishing phase of the building.

Who is leading this initiative and who else is needed?

Pablo & Maricela will lead this initiative serving as the bridge between the Vichayal Church leaders and North American churches willing to contribute financially and/or by sending workers. An ACTION team from North America would be a really big help with this project and yet it is necessary to be cautious and alert due to the attention that foreigners tend to receive. Peru is also on alert for the upcoming rainy season with the possibility of the El Niño hurricane phenomenon.

How much is needed for this initiative to be successful?

A total of $14,118 USD is needed to complete this project with $7,059 needed for building materials, $4,706 for skilled labor and $2,353 for electrical work.
