Urgent Relief: Colombia Earthquake
On 10 August, 2026, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake caused widespread devastation across Western Colombia. To date, hundreds have been confirmed dead, thousands remain missing and are presumed to be trapped under the rubble, and tens of thousands have been displaced from homes that have been destroyed or damaged. Dozens of schools, hospitals, and roads have also collapsed nationwide.
While emergency efforts are underway in large cities and towns, there is also an urgent need to bring aid to the indigenous Wounaan groups living in remote areas of the Chocó jungle.
Multiply’s Einer and Girlesa Zuluaga are working alongside the Wounaan MB churches of Panama to reach the Wounaan of Colombia. He writes:
“Many Wounaan in the Chocó have lost their homes and belongings and are in need of immediate assistance. We are mobilizing teams from among the Panamanian Wounaan believers, and are working together with the United Evangelical Church of Panama to reach these vulnerable jungle communities and meet their most pressing needs. Please pray for us; this area is difficult to access and there is a constant threat from terrorist groups and drug traffickers in the jungle.”
Donations to this project will go towards emergency relief supplies, to be distributed through the local churches for the rebuilding of homes that have been damaged or destroyed, leaving families without adequate shelter.
