Evangelism and Discipleship Support in Tigray, Ethiopia
Ethiopia is a nation with a spiritual heritage reaching back to the New Testament, with Christianity adopted as the state religion in the 4th century and resisting the expansion of Islam as it swept across sub-Saharan Africa. Despite these deep roots, today Ethiopian followers of Jesus face increasing opposition and persecution for their faith.
Those diverging from the Orthodox traditions and claiming to be born again into a living faith are considered apostate: they may lose their jobs, be expelled from school, experience rejection from their families, and even be denied a place to bury their dead.
Despite this, the Gospel is gaining ground, as Bibles are distributed to those who have only ever heard recitations from an Orthodox priest in an ancient Semitic language that is no longer spoken in everyday life. As seekers read the truth for themselves, they are seeing who God is, who they are, how God sees them, and how God wants to use them on His mission to reconcile the world to Himself, through Jesus.
Donations to this project go toward Bible distribution and evangelistic outreach ventures overseen by Multiply’s national partners in Tigray.
