Jesus is the Son of the living God

In a world that needs Jesus more than ever, he is building his Church.

God is gathering a great multitude that no one can count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, to stand before the throne and worship before the Lamb. This is happening today, globally. Our response to his initiative is to simply do our part, partnering with him and uniting with his Church in reaching the lost.

This lostness is very real. Whether in remote areas of the world or in secular, post-modern western countries, people are increasingly isolated, confused, lonely and afraid. How can they move from a place of barrenness to being a disciple of Jesus? The establishment of a local church presence is the answer to a world in desperate need of the Saviour. The planting of new congregations, while challenging, has proven to be an extremely fruitful approach to making disciples. That’s why Multiply facilitates church planting locally, nationally, and globally. As a cross-denominational organization, we aim to inspire, equip, and encourage the Church in the multiplication of healthy disciples and churches; together, that the world may know Jesus.

A vigorous and continuous approach to church planting is the only way to guarantee an increase in the number of believers and is one of the best ways to renew the whole body of Christ.”
— Dr. Tim Keller
God has both expanded our vision and increased our capacity to partner with him in this goal, inspiring the launch of a strategic campaign to increase our effectiveness.

The Lord of the harvest has given us an invitation: to plant 500 churches together in the next two years so that 50,000 more people would have the opportunity to know Jesus.

He has led us to focus on the following three areas:

1.  growing healthy disciples who make disciples

Double our capacity to send short-term participants on discipleship programs.

2.  calling and equipping church-planting leaders

As the rate of global church planting increases from one church every third day to one every day, we are eager to train and support these new leaders.

3.  growing local and global partnerships

We foresee a doubling of the number of church-planting organizations that we will walk alongside to reach their nations.

your partnership makes a difference

Last year, 132 churches were planted (a new church every three days).

Last year, more than 3,000 people were baptized in new church plants.

We believe that, as the body of Christ comes together, thousands of churches will be planted and millions of people will encounter Jesus.

church planting in 65 nations!

The kingdom of God is expanding as Jesus works through passionate multipliers, worldwide. We have had the privilege of participating with God in his mission, with a network that has grown from 26 nations in 2016 to 65 in 2018.

Map

There are six specific regions in which Multiply has a well-established presence, and where we see the Holy Spirit moving in unprecedented ways. Each region has a strong national leader, a healthy network of local churches, new workers rising up with vision for expansion and existing teams in place to receive, resource and release them where most needed. Multiply also has significant media resources and personnel poised to support the teams in these regions as they launch into new initiatives. We are ready and eager to build for God’s kingdom.

We want to join what God is doing in the following regions:

view stories of transformation from Randy Friesen, President of Multiply

We love stories about fruit springing up in unlikely places, especially where the soil was considered to be dry and barren.

Dennis Wilkinson had a burden for the city of Vancouver and he believed that hospitality was at the heart of urban mission. In 2011, he and his family moved from Minnesota to plant a church in Vancouver’s West End, despite the fact that people warned them that the city was a graveyard for church plants.

Chris Hyndman is grateful that they did.

Chris was living a nightmare in the West End when the Wilkinsons were starting Meta Communities. In a recent interview, Chris said, “My god was cannabis, and it failed me. I had a complete mental collapse. I was hearing voices and seeing demons behind every bush. Even after I was hospitalized, I wanted to kill myself.”

Dennis met Chris at a playground, and invited him and his wife for supper. After three years of building trust and friendship, Chris accepted Jesus as Lord, and soon after began leading worship at Meta Communities. Chris’s transformation inspired others to invest deeply in bringing the Gospel to their city. Dennis now spearheads the Meta School, teaching new believers how to live on mission in their own communities.

The prophet Isaiah had a vision of dry ground becoming a fruitful field. “The parched land will be glad,” he wrote, “the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom.” Through the faithfulness of people like Dennis, the desert of downtown Vancouver is coming to life.

The same is happening in remote, spiritually dry regions of Latin America.

Emerson Cardoso, our Regional Team Leader for Latin America, has seen this unexpected fruitfulness in Uruguay. There, the church is experiencing rapid growth through a new level of cooperation between church denominations that have historically been at odds.

Basilio Schur was eager to plant a church in the villages of northern Uruguay, but his denomination insisted that the field was too hard and a new church would not survive. He was told that he would only be funded if he focused on communities of 5,000 people or more. Yet Schur felt drawn to the harder soil in the north. Sensing God's leading, the Uruguayan MB Conference offered Schur an unused building in a northern town where a church had been closed down. After only a few years, that church-planting initiative has grown into more than seven hundred churches that meet in seventeen different locations throughout northern Uruguay.

The deserts are beginning to bloom. Fruit is being born in dry, remote Latino villages and in sterile, concrete city centers. Wherever the seeds of the Gospel are being sown, the Holy Spirit is bringing streams of living water to renew the ground.

“The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom...”  — Isaiah 35:1-2a

God is inviting us into this kind of fruitfulness. Together we are plowing hard ground, planting seeds of the Gospel, watering the hearts of those who respond, and trusting God to bring the increase (1 Corinthians 3:7-9). Will you join us?

God is doing something new

God is doing something new in the world today. We are seeing a movement of leaders, churches and organizations that want to join with the prayer of Jesus that speaks of unity unto great harvest: "...that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me” (John 17:23, ESV). Many around the world are hearing this invitation by the Spirit and are responding with new thoughts about how to collaborate in prayer, discipleship, and church planting, all for the purpose of seeing people and cultures transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are making shifts

Multiply has been looking for ways to align with this new movement of God by collaborating strategically with national leaders around the world who have a vision for planting churches. In North America, we began to serve and partner across denominations by sharing strategies and resourcing those called into church planting. Around the globe, we also positioned our workers to support and strengthen local church-planting leaders. As we made these shifts, we began to see the potential for widespread multiplication.

We are building to expand

We are committed to being Gospel-centered, Spirit-led and mission-focused. Jesus is the hero of this story. We will continue to respond to his call to unity and collaboration, and we will strive for new levels of partnership locally, nationally and globally. Our staff, our organizational structure and our systems are being built to expand their capacity to inspire, equip and encourage those who are church planting around the world.

Growth of Church Plants Per Year

2015 Vision Embraced the call to be fruitful and multiply through church planting together across denominations.
2016 Pilot Experimented globally with how to form healthy partnerships with national church-planting partners.
2017 Expansion Began to see how, as we invested in national partners, our church planting was multiplying.
2018 Alignment Grew our foundation and structure to support this increased activity, including a $2M budget increase.
2019 Multiplication As we continue to develop our national partners locally and globally, we anticipate an even greater increase in new churches planted this year and beyond.

how we facilitate church-planting

A

ASSESSING – Coming alongside potential church planters and, in collaboration with their sending church and denominational partner, helping them discern their calling and capacity for church planting.

C

COACHING – Offering Gospel coaching to church planters so that they receive care and input into the personal, spiritual, relational and missional aspects of their lives.

T

TRAINING – Providing ongoing Bible training and mobilization events, such as Multiply Conferences, to equip, inspire and encourage church planters. Where feasible, arranging apprenticeships for prospective church planters.

S

SUPPORTING – Ensuring that every new church has a good financial base and solid financial systems. Where possible, providing a temporary external leadership team to give oversight, accountability and support.

organizational experience

Multiply serves cross-denominationally to make disciples by facilitating church-planting locally, nationally and globally. We can’t multiply on our own. Fruitfulness comes when we work together.

Multiply has a rich mission history within the larger story of the Mennonite Brethren (MB) Church, birthed from a fresh move of the Holy Spirit among Mennonites in Southern Russia in 1860. Persecution scattered them internationally and they have been planting new churches wherever they go ever since.

In North America, these churches united in their passion for global outreach and formed MB Mission. Much later, the C2C Network was formed to resource church planting in North America. As new missional strategies emerged that focused more on the value of partnering with national leaders and working cross-denominationally, the two organizations realized that they shared a common vision. Both had a growing understanding that God was on a mission and that his missionary was the Church and that global mission was increasingly “from everywhere to everywhere.”

A merger was affirmed in 2017 under the name of Multiply.

What do we mean by “together”?

Our understanding of togetherness is rooted in the prayer of Jesus, “that they may be one” (John 17). Jesus has inspired our commitment to do everything in team, recognizing the varied contributions of individuals and churches that serve, pray and/or give. But togetherness also goes beyond team and includes our growing network of national church-planting movements and partner organizations that are eagerly sharing resources and working together that the world may know Jesus.

let's serve Jesus together

That The World May Know campaign goals

God is clearly doing a new thing in our day, and what a privilege it is to work together in his harvest fields. God's invitation to plant 500 more churches and the unprecedented fruitfulness that we are already experiencing has led us to set the following goals for the next two years:
  1. Recruit 2000 dedicated partners to pray with us through the multiply house of prayer.
  2. Send out 2000 more people to serve with church-planting teams locally and globally.
  3. Raise the $4 million needed to support the work of multiplying disciples and planting 500 new churches. Our launch phase goal is $1.4 million by May 31, 2019.

The gift chart is meant to show how our phase one goal could potentially be funded. The actual ways in which partners like you give is a matter between you and the Lord. Please consider how you could be involved in this phase. Our prayer is that as you give of what God has placed in your hands, it will be multiplied by Jesus!
